You must not forget that a monster is only a variation, and that to a monster the norm is monstrous. And who in his mind has not probed the black water? There are two women characters, one evil and exaggerated to the ls of absurdity, and the other just a plot device.

He has amazing character development and great theme’s, but I can’t finish this I’m beginning to realize that some books are rated R In his subsequent novels, Steinbeck found a more authentic voice by drawing upon direct memories of his life in California. It was written 13 years after Grapes – to – and without the help of his editor and first wife Carol, and I don’t know if he just rzsarit old and sentimental like men do or if he needed that editor or what, but East of Eden is the work of a writer who is no longer edeh.
Cathy is one of the most vile, evil women I have ever encountered in literature. Do I feel for his endeavors? Without the struggle we are all either Cathy or Aron and we cannot live in this world in any meaningful manner.

I really like Steinbeck’s writing. The characters are as inconsistent and capricious as the focus, and no one of them ever acts as one would think they would the young, perfect Adam becoming a vagrant and gypsy and then an idiot. You basically have to read a few hours before there is any dialogue in the book. A short list of Cathy’s sins include patricide, matricide, arson, attempted murder, adultery, abandonment, blackmail, fraud on the court, abuse of service, etc. She strongly dislikes anyone who sees through her facade of appropriate woman.

We see his tumultuous childhood on a farm in Connecticut and the brutal treatment he endured from his younger but stronger half-brother, Charles.
But those things by themselves don’t make it a good book.
The results, employing gorgeous California landscapes artfully shot by cinematographer Ted D. For some reason, the inconsistency with the narrator bugged me.

Caleb invests in bean crops. The score, by Leonard Rosenman, is also worth mentioning, as the mood of edrn film hinges on it so much. This epic story of Adam Trask, and his life and struggles with meaning is definitely worth reading. Although there are rumors around town that Cal and Aron’s mother is not dead but is actually still in Salinas, the boys do not yet know that she is Kate.
